We chatted with Ann Thomas, Founder of Revel, on how taking care of one’s mental health is essential to having a good life, and to do that, Revel is here to provide you with the tools to succeed; and how an innovative way to spread knowledge and awareness—through QR codes on labels and a feelings wheel coaster—can reach just about anyone and help them get the help they deserve.

Tell us a bit about Revel and how you got started?

I was working in the education industry when I got pregnant and I decided that being a full-time mom was where I wanted to be. The social isolation of motherhood drew me to the study of psychology, which has been an incredible tool for me as a parent—and also as a person. The more I learned about positive psychology and its benefits, the more keenly aware I became of how important it is for everyone to understand and access these tools. This is what inspired me to create Revel: an online platform that makes it easy for anyone who wants to access these tools and apply them in their lives!

We saw your coaster and roll label designs, and love the use of QR on the latter. Could you tell us a bit more about both designs?

We place a lot of emphasis on meeting our customers in person. It's not just a matter of convenience—it's a way to show them how much we care about them. And it's not just about selling products—it's about building relationships with people who want to change their lives for the better. This is part of our core purpose: helping people in their walk towards mental health.

However, some people are understandably reticent about discussing their problems. They may not feel ready to talk about them, or they may think that they don’t deserve help—or even know how to ask for it. When they see a price tag with a QR code on it, though, they can use their phone to scan the code and immediately access more information about what's going on in their heads—no awkward conversations required.

This was an experiment that worked out really well for us! We found that when people are browsing our journals, if we have some more information on hand, and make it easy for them to access this information without having to approach us directly first, then we can help them without making them feel like we're forcing the issue.
