It takes time and effort to conjure up a well-made garment. From sourcing fabrics and pattern making to stitching all the pieces together and embellishing, every step requires dedication, patience, and attention to detail. But what sets Untouched World, a New Zealand clothing label, apart from the usual is that sustainability is and has always been part of who they are, as they dubbed it, “since day one”.

Untouched World was founded on a mission to “use fashion as a vehicle for change”. Founder Peri Drysdale wanted to create a brand that has both the wearer and the planet in mind, so in contrast to fast fashion’s often wasteful pace in releasing collections, Untouched World is committed to only producing collections twice a year—all of which are made of high-quality and sustainably sourced fabrics that last a long time and are designed to complement day and night, season after season.

Minimizing waste is an integral aspect of Untouched World's sustainability philosophy. Not only do they opt for fabrics that naturally return to the earth, produce most of their garments in their headquarters to support local craftspeople and reduce their footprint, and donate excess fabrics to be recycled into something new, but they also elevate their customers’ unboxing experience through the use of vibrantly printed, compostable, and recyclable packaging products from noissue. Tell us about the design for your packaging and how you’re using them?

We chose to use our logo on our packaging. As a New Zealand brand, Untouched World is proud to feature a logo that links us to our local culture. You’ll notice the Māori kite symbol incorporated into the design of most of our garments in some way. Whether it’s embroidered onto the garment, used as a stylish zip pull, or subtly incorporated into our tissue paper, the kite is there to inspire and simultaneously ground us to our culture and world. But it also means much more than that.

The Māori kite on our sticker sheets symbolizes an ideal relationship between people and planet – one which combines natural materials and carefully honed human skills, resulting in beautiful works of art which will one day leave the environment without a trace. It links the earth to the sky, and represents a soaring freedom of the spirit, that’s why we feel it is the perfect embodiment of the Untouched World philosophy. The kite is a constant reminder to us that it is possible to live in harmony with nature, that modern art and fashion don’t have to leave a lasting mark on the environment.
